The Kennel Project and Nail Day Cancelled

Come check out our “Adopt-A-Kennel” program where our local individuals and businesses can show the community their support for our area’s homeless animals. This month’s (APRIL) Adopt-A-Kennel is from Judith Ladehaff and in memory of all of the furkids she’s cared for in her lifetime. Anyone who knows her, knows her reputation of taking in the special needs babes, the elderly, and they live out their lives in nothing but amazing love and comfort. She is wanting to take this month to give remembrance to all who will never leave her heart. We thank all of our sponsors for their continuing support. It’s the perfect way to honor someone or memorialize them by adopting a kennel in their name. Call us for more information or visit our website www.mccookhumanesociety.com for more information and to fill out a form online. You can also sponsor an adoption for one of our available pets if you’d like to help out in that way.

Our monthly “NAIL DAY” for April will be canceled due to the construction and limited access at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience and will hopefully see you for a special one in May.

Please ask how you can help with our ongoing “Kennel Project”. Give us a call at 308-345-2372, check it out on our FB page or our website. Thank you to all who have helped in any way that you can.

WISHLIST: We do have a special request. Does anyone happen to have a mannequin (just the top portion) that they’d donate to the shelter? We want to display our TShirts and we need a way to do so. Thank you in advance if you can locate one.

We’ve got shirts both humans and pets, all kinds of “bling”, stop by and check us out.

We’ve had some very loving people come in and sponsor adoptions to help make sure that our temporarily homeless furry friends find forever homes. Come on in and see who’s adoption fees have been completely paid for: Rhea and Benedict Cumberbark. This should help us Clear the Shelter, if even for a few days. Some wonderful pets have found truly amazing forever homes because of these generous people. We really need these furkids finding homes quickly because of the upcoming remodel to the Main Kennel.

Spay/Neuter Fees waived, but for how long? A wonderfully generous anonymous donor has decided that it was time to let the dog’s at the shelter get help in finding homes also. This friend of the shelter started a spay/neuter reimbursement fund for them because, as she said, “they need help finding permanent loving homes also”. So, spay/neuter fees have been waived on all dogs who have been available for adoption for over 30 days, until this fund is depleted. Unfortunately, this fund is dangerously low, we’re actually at zero after the ones on the list are adopted. If you’d like to donate to this fund to keep it going, please reach out. We, and the temporarily homeless friends that have found homes because of this, truly appreciate you.

At this time the spay/neuter reimbursement fees are still being waived for the felines. We will continue to waive the spay/neuter fees until the Linda Hedges/Mary Ellinger Memorial fund is depleted. We have truly seen a dramatic increase in the feline adoptions since we’ve been able to waive the spay/neuter fees for them, let’s see if it helps with their barking friends. If you’d like to make a contribution to help either of these funds continue, please make sure that you let us know that it’s for the fund. You can stop by, call us, email us, Facebook us, or reach out on the “Contact Us” form on our website for help.

Did you know… As the weather stays cold, we humans tend to stay inside where it’s warm. Many of us are lucky enough to enjoy winter comforts like heating, fireplaces, blankets, and warm places to sleep. But for small animals that live outside, such as cats and rodents, finding a cozy place to sleep isn’t as easy. This is why drivers often find cats in car engines looking for a warm place to hide from frigid temperatures. Of course, this behavior can be deadly for the animal. Luckily, there are some things you can do before driving off to check that no critters are hiding under your hood. Some examples are; banging on the hood of your car, honking your horn, opening and closing your hood, and covering your car. These things may help save a small animal’s life.

Happy Tails! The following pets found their new forever home: Terra, Cooper, GiGi, Toka and Arcadia!

“CLARKE”, a young adult red and white Heeler mix, was left at our shelter with a large group of dogs giving us no information. This beautiful and sweet girl is the most outgoing of the group, the quickest to warm up and will steal your heart with her intelligence alone.

“OCTAVIA”, another gorgeous young adult red Heeler mix that was part of a group that was left at our shelter giving us no information, is just as sweet as her friends. This very smart girl was a bit more confused, was a bit slower to trust us, but is just as big of a love bug as the other two girls.

“DRAGON” is an adult male shorthaired black cat who comes to us because his owner moved. This big guy would make a perfect companion for anyone looking for that quiet, supportive friend to tell all of their secrets to.

“ECHO” is a beautiful adult red Heeler mix that was part of a group that was left at our shelter giving us no information. She is a just as intelligent and sweet as her friends. This girl was a bit slower to trust us, but is just as big of a love bug as the other two girls and just as the others will make a wonderful addition to your active home.

“VEGA” is a juvenile black lab mix. His owner decided that he really would be better off with folks who had more time to spend with this sweet, energetic and loving young guy. He’s smart and gets along with absolutely everyone!
