We are gearing up for the 3rd Annual Wiener Dog Races, coming up during Heritage Days! Time to get those little legs working out!
At this time the spay/neuter reimbursement fees are still being waived for the felines. We will continue to waive the spay/neuter fees until the Linda Hedges/Mary Ellinger Memorial fund is depleted. We have truly seen a dramatic increase in the feline adoptions since we’ve been able to waive the spay/neuter fees for them, let’s see if it helps with their barking friends.
We are very thankful to the generous folks who come in and donate the adoption fees for some of our available furry family members. At the moment, “GoldWhisker”, “Vader” and “Hall”, all are sponsored! What does that mean exactly? It means that these three are absolutely no charge to an approved applicant, thanks to the generosity of the kind souls that made the donation.

Did Ya Know… If you follow our local Social Media, and of course we here at the McCook Humane Society are privy to most of the calls and messages concerning lost or found pets in our area, it seems alarming how many wandering dogs you may see on any given day. I’d like to put a few kibbles out there for all of us to nibble on…
McCook City Ordinances require that there is a current rabies tag ON your pet’s collar. Identification, and proof of rabies. Two things that are simple to do and any responsible pet owner will do these things. Collars and tags can fall off, Microchips don’t. Consider getting your pet chipped. Keep your information current with the company, it doesn’t help one bit to get your pet microchipped if the information is registered and/or current.
Things happen. Storms, fireworks, etc… Whatever the case may be. In a split second, your pet is not where they are supposed to be. Hopefully you have a picture of them and can alert us. Then (in case we already aren’t acquainted with them), we know who to contact.
Really cool note that I wanted to add. That saying about taking a village to raise a child? It goes for the furry ones as well. There’s been an uplifting uptick in folks trying to find the owners of the escapees. The negative commenting has reduced dramatically. What does that say about this awesome community that we are blessed to be a part of? That we really are among some amazing and awesome people.
