Come check out our “Adopt-A-Kennel” program where our local individuals and businesses can show the community their support for our area’s homeless animals. This month’s (JUNE) Adopt-A-Kennel is in memory of Kathy Hass. Everyone who knew her, loved her and is missing this kind and generous lady, who went out of her way to help everyone (furry and non-furry alike). A very special thanks to all of our sponsors for their continuing support. It’s the perfect way to honor someone or memorialize them by adopting a kennel in their name. Call us for more information or visit our website www.mccookhumanesociety.com for more information and to fill out a form online. You can also sponsor an adoption for one of our available pets if you’d like to help out in that way.
Shelter Wish: Do you have a rubbermaid storage cabinet that you don’t need anymore? The McCook Humane Society needs to replace the metal storage cabinets with ones that we don’t have to keep sanding, scraping and painting over. The ones that we need to replace are 77inches high, 3ft wide with a depth of 20inches. If you’ve got anything like this around that you’re not using, we sure would love to “adopt” it and give them a good home! Thank you to all who help us out in every way that you do. We can’t do what we do without you.
Nail Day Tomorrow! We’re really looking forward to this month’s edition of our “NAIL DAY”, tomorrow, Saturday, June 13th, from 1pm until 2pm. Our professional Nail Trimmer will be Amy Strauch of Four Winds Animal Clinic. Trims are $6 (which includes sales tax), or in lieu of that you may bring something in off our Shelter wish list (found on our facebook page). Must bring proof of rabies vaccination, and remain on leash (no retractable leashes).
At this time the spay/neuter reimbursement fees are still being waived for the felines. We will continue to waive the spay/neuter fees until the Linda Hedges/Mary Ellinger Memorial fund is depleted. We have truly seen a dramatic increase in the feline adoptions since we’ve been able to waive the spay/neuter fees for them, let’s see if it helps with their barking friends.

Did ya know… Now is the time to start thinking about fireworks and your pets. If your furkids are frightened by the big booms, please start now with preparations for the celebration. Set up the perfect spot in your home, with some kind of soothing noise where they have no view of the outside and the bright flashes of lights. Make sure that all of the ID is current, information up to date. In severe cases, now is the time to visit with your vet about something to keep your pet calm during the holiday. Before the celebration each evening, make sure you exercise him or her so they are just plain wore out… a sleepy dog stands a better chance of sleeping through it. Start prepping now for a more stress free Fourth of July holiday with your furry family members.
